Malcolm X CNA Program

The Malcolm X CNA program, also known as their Basic Nursing Assistants (BNA) program, is a short-term program that trains students to become certified nursing assistants in the healthcare industry.

The Malcolm X CNA program introduces students to the discipline of nursing and the basic approaches to patient care. Students learn and practice the role of the CNA as an assistant to the licensed nurse and member of the healthcare team.

Class Structure

The program consists of two components: theory and clinical. The theory component covers topics such as infection control, basic nursing skills, body structure and function, and the job seeking process. The clinical component allows students to apply their skills in real-life settings under the supervision of an instructor.

The program requires 120 hours of instruction, which can be completed in 8 to 10 weeks. Classes are held 3-4 days per week for 5.5 hours each day, plus a minimum of 40 clinical hours by program end. Classes are offered in the morning or evening sessions, at both the main campus in Chicago and the West Side Learning Center.

Cost

The program costs $990, which includes tuition, registration fee, books, supplies, uniform, and state exam fee. Additional costs may include physical examination, healthcare worker background check, CPR class, and transportation to clinical sites. At $990, this is one of the least expensive CNA program in Chicago. Financial aid is available for eligible students.

Certification

The program prepares students for the Illinois State Certification Exam for Certified Nursing Aide, which consists of a written test and a skills test. Students must pass both parts to become recognized as a CNA in Illinois and work in various healthcare settings, such as nursing homes, hospitals, home health agencies, and hospices.
